About Us
Our Team
The Tax Lady was formed in 1996 by Carol Rankin and she ran the business from the billiard room in her Stokes Valley residence. In 2007 two of her staff, Ian and Maria, took over the business as she eased into retirement. Wanting to retain the personal service provided by Carol they stayed on in her premises for a further four years before expanding the business and moving to a new processing office in Silverstream, keeping the Dixon St Office to enable appointments in town where a lot of our clients are based. For your initial appointment you will either meet with Ian or Maria.
Maria Anderson (Director)
After working for the P&O Group for 24 years in accounting, completing her Diploma in Business Studies and then seeing her twin boys through their early childhood, Maria came to help The Tax Lady out for a few weeks in 2004 and never left.
If not here Maria would be "in Tuscany eating olives and drinking good red wine"
Ian Voisey (Director)
Ian has been associated with The Tax Lady since 1996 and joined the staff in April 2003 when DOS was still used to do GST returns. He has a diverse range of clients and is knowledgeable in all areas of income tax legislation.
If not here Ian would be "on a World Trip preferably the Queen Mary II bumping into 'widowed billionaires'"
Kirsty McDiarmid (Practice Manager)
Kirsty joined The Tax Lady in May 2023. Kirsty has worked in the accounting field for many years and is a Xero Certified Advisor.
If not here Kirsty would be "relaxing in a sunny little village in Portugal or Italy"
Celine Sinclair (Administration)
Celine has been with The Tax Lady since 2013 and works on the Administration of the office.
If not here Celine would be "Shopping"
Viv Sutton (Taxation Consultant)
Viv joined The Tax Lady back in February 2003. She is our expert on GST and prepares most of the GST returns for our clients, especially the tricky ones who have withholding tax that needs reconciling with IRD. Viv has experience in small business accounting and outside of work she takes an active role in her boys recreational activities.
If not here Viv would be "seeing the world, one beach at a time"
Gemma Falleni (Taxation Consultant)
Gemma joined us in February 2008 and is our Guru with MYOB AO software and Xero. She prepares Financial Accounts and Income Tax returns for our wide variety of clients.
If not here Gemma would be "in Costa Rica volunteering at a sea turtle conservation project with lots of sun, sand and no shoes"'
Clare Kynaston (Taxation Consultant)
Clare joined our team in October 2018. Clare moved to New Zealand from England and has a background in accounting.
If not here Clare would be "having a walk on the Great Wall of China with her boys"
Danny Ward (Taxation Consultant)
Danny is a certified Xero advisor with a Bachelor of Accounting and Information Systems from Victoria University, and is currently studying for Chartered Accountancy certification.
If not here Danny would be “halfway up a rock wall climbing somewhere sunny like Greece or the US”
Millie Falleni (Taxation Consultant)
Millie joined our team in February 2024. Millie has a Diploma in Business and is a certified Xero advisor.
If not here, Millie would be "be chasing sunshine with the kids and dogs, preferably somewhere warm with not a spreadsheet in sight."
Adrienne Simpson (Taxation Consultant)
Adrienne joined us in January 2013. With many years experience in the Accounting industry her expertise is with Rental Property and Investment Returns. Adrienne is semi-retired, working two days a week.
If not here Adrienne would be "spending as much time as possible travelling with an unlimited supply of funds"
Lui aka Chewie (Office pup)
Lui has been part of the team for 8 years and comes in to the office most days. Lui loves to greet all of our clients at the door as they come in.
If not here Lui would be "on the beach chasing a stick"
Woollie (Office Cat) - Now deceased
Woollie started coming to work after breaking his leg and he kept turning up for work on time ever since. He loved sorting papers to best suit his nap time requirements and offering stress relief for staff and clients!
